Frequently asked questions
Yes. FixFile.online processes files entirely in your browser — your PDF is never sent to our servers. All compression happens using JavaScript and WebAssembly running locally on your device.
For PDFs containing scanned images or photos, expect 50–80% size reduction with Medium compression. For PDFs with mostly text, the reduction is smaller (10–30%) because text is already efficiently stored.
Our Compress PDF tool handles files up to 100 MB per upload. For larger files, use our Split PDF tool to break the document into smaller parts first, then compress each part.
Low compression resamples images to 150 DPI — excellent quality, moderate size reduction. Medium resamples to 120 DPI — good quality, significant reduction. High resamples to 96 DPI — noticeable quality reduction in image areas, maximum size reduction. Text is never affected by any compression level.
It depends on the compression level. Low compression is imperceptible. Medium may slightly soften high-resolution embedded images but is fine for most documents. High compression noticeably reduces image quality but produces the smallest file. Text content is never degraded — only rasterised images are affected.
Uploaded files are processed in an isolated temporary environment and never sent to any server within 1 hour. We do not store, analyse, index, or share your documents.
No — the tool cannot process encrypted PDF content without the password. Remove the password first (if you know it), then compress.
